Who is Involved

Using electronic medical records, the ADAPTABLE study will enroll and follow as many as 20,000 patients with heart disease quickly and efficiently. Patients will be identified from PCORnet’s Clinical Data Research Networks (CDRNs) that are based in large health systems and a Patient-Powered Research Network (PPRN) operated by a patient-led group.

Participating Clinical Data Research Networks (CDRNs)

To participate in ADAPTABLE you must be a patient or a provider within a PCORnet Partner Network (see the below list).

Participating Patient-Powered Research Network (PPRN)

  • The Health eHeart Alliance, a cardiovascular health focused PPRN
    University of California, San Francisco

The Adaptors Team

The Adaptors team is comprised of patient representatives who will work in concert with the study team to help design the consent form,  study materials, and results dissemination plan. The Adaptors will also participate on the Steering Committee where they will monitor study conduct and progress. There are two Adaptors Co-Chairs who will  serve as the patient representatives on the Executive Committee to provide study oversight, promote cross-pollination of ideas and sharing of information between the Executive Committee, Steering Committee and the Adaptors Team. Also, two cardiology patient advocates will serve on the Data Monitoring and Safety Board (DMSB) to participate in review of study data sets and adverse event monitoring and reporting. The Health eHeart Alliance PPRN supports and facilitates the  Adaptors Team via bi-weekly  and check-in calls.

Steering Committee

The ADAPTABLE’s Steering Committee is responsible for the protocol and the scientific conduct of the study. The Committee includes patient and physician representatives from each participating CDRN and PPRN, along with selected network members with expertise in clinical research in antiplatelet therapies, cardiovascular disease, and analytical methods. Additionally, representatives from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) are on the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee will make decisions about any changes to the protocol and will review all proposed substudies.

Funding

Funded through a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Award (Contract Number: ASP-1502-27079), ADAPTABLE is the first demonstration project to be conducted through PCORnet, the National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network. PCORnet is a PCORI-funded initiative designed to improve the nation’s capacity to conduct comparative clinical effectiveness research.
